So What is Fundamental Research???

Year in, year out, so many research proposals had to be turned down simply because the criteria of fundamental research is not met by these proposals. The four criteria are: first, basic research that could produce new ideas, new concepts, new theories & new policies; second, the research output has potential to produce extended research, extended technology and new processes; third, the research is able to improve existing methodology, existing theory and concepts; fourth, research that can contribute towards new facts, new information and new knowledge.
